Philosophy of Education My philosophy of education would include a classroom that supports creativity and gives students an opportunity to explore the world in the confines of four walls. Knowledge results from countless experiences and interactions throughout an individual’s lifetime. I believe the purpose of education is to allow students to discover who they are through exploring who has come before them, and what is possible for them in the future. Formal education should provide students with more than a foundation in basic disciplines. It should develop skills that will facilitate living and working in an ever-changing world; one filled with diversity. As a teacher, I would hope to illustrate to my students how vital each†¦show more content†¦I want my future students to feel free to address any questions or concerns about the material being covered. I guess that I am a idealist because I believe that teachers are meant to be role models. They need to be encouraging, and never unde restimate the abilities of their students. Teachers should give their students the same amount of respect they expect from them. When a student does well they should be praised, and when a student does poorly they should be encouraged to try harder next time. In my class, tests will be used to asses students, but it is also important to look at the all-around performance of the student. Standardized tests don’t always show the extent of knowledge gained. Other attempts will be made to monitor the overall acquired knowledge on a topic. These will include journals, class participation, and projects. Classroom management is vital to the survival of a positive classroom environment. Rules could be established in a democratic way. Ask the students what rules they think are appropriate in a classroom setting, based on rules from their previous classes. Students should feel that their opinion is important. Communication, respect, and considerate behavior will be encouraged. It is important to manage all discipline problems consistently, effectively and most importantly inside the classroom. Now that I have really explored them I think it is hard to go about our day and not do something that involves physics. Some of the things I will talk about are getting out of bed, the eye and how eye glasses help a person see better, speakers, the Frisbee, sailing, and the pulleys I use to get my jeep unstuck in the mud when I ride in the woods. All of these require energy, and energy is what physics is all about. There is kinetic energy, potential energy, conservation of energy, velocity, acceleration, mass, force, and gravity. Energy gives you the ability to do work. Your total energy is conserved while walking. The potential energy is the biochemical potential of your muscles and frame, which i s converted by work into kinetic energy, which is the walking part. From a standing still point you need TE to total energy to push off with your foot. You need that force because the 1st law says your body is lazy and wont move unless pushed. But once you get going you can reduce that force a bit because his law also says once you get going your body wants to keep going. In fact, if you want to stop, youll need to exert some force to do that. The force to stop comes from the static friction of your foot or shoe against the bottom material it is on, such as a floor or cement outside. That creates the opposite reaction of Newton’s third law and as that force pushes you forward. While the forward momentum is going on you also have the force of gravity to deal with as well as keeping your balance. Functionalist views are based on that society is a system of interdependent parts held together by a shared culture or consensus. They believe that every part of society performs functions that help keep society running effectively. They use the example of a body to explain the way society runs as each part of our body has to work together in order for us to stay alive this is the same as society according to a functionalist. Education according to Emilie Durkheim (1903) consists of two main functions, creating social solidarity and teaching specialist skills. Social solidarity is the sense of being part of a group or society. Functionalists believe this is key to making education run accordingly as without social solidarity people would only self indulge in their own desires. However there are criticisms of functionalists and education. Melvin Tumin (1953) put forward a circular argument and criticises David and Moore by putting forward such questions as ‘how do we know what job is more important? ’ answer ‘because it’s highly Rewarded’ and why are some jobs higher rewarded than others? ’ answer ‘because they are more important’. Marxists believe that society only transmits the ideology of the ruling class therefore it disadvantages the working classes in education. One example is that Marxists prepare the working class for there jobs through education therefore it is only transmitting values of the ruling class. Also Marxists believe that the state is controlled by the ruling classes who transmit the ideology state apparatus which is that it maintains control through controlling people’s ideas, values and beliefs through religion, mass media and the education system. This criticises the functionalist view as social solidarity is meant to transmit these values and beliefs which according to Marxists are only means to control the working class. Meritocracy according to Marxists is a myth as we are controlled by the higher classes and we cannot achieve our status we ascribe our status. Another big criticism of functionalism in education is that functionalists believe that everybody at school behaves and accepts all that is taught when this is not the true case. It does not explain why some people come to fail examinations if everybody works in a general ‘consensus’. Dennis Wrong (1961) refers to this as ‘puppets in society’. The new right believe that the state fails to prepare the young for work as the state discourages choice and competition. Another disadvantage is that functionalists cannot explain under-achievement and inequality of opportunity in education. In conclusion Functionalism has a good general understanding of Education but it has quite obvious flaws as not everybody is going to get on in society so it is impossible to have a general consensus. Also the disadvantages of Functionalism in education seem to out weigh the positives therefore functionalism does not give a real positive understanding of education.

Acting as backing band are The Voidz, an assemblage of musicians who have fully bought into Casablancas’ new style. With the spacey, Daft Punk-influenced â€Å"Take Me in Your Army,† the tropical vibe of â€Å"Father Electricity,† the sounds of revolution in â€Å"Mutually Assured Destruction,† and the gently pulsing â€Å"Xerox,† it’s a pleasantly diverse album. Tyranny’s finest track may be â€Å"Human Sadness,† an 11-minute collage of emotions and melodies. Only the not-so-grand-finale, â€Å"Off to War,† disappoints. It can be said that â€Å"Tyranny† is a masterpiece for the rebels. It’s far beyond the comprehension of mainstream pop. In fact, the music finds itself in a â€Å"void,† but Julian Casablancas and the Voidz have found life and energy in this unknown. If this truly is the sound of the future, we are in for one heck of a ride.
